TITLE Exercise and Grappling Gloves: Leather

An open hand has to grip, and a boxing glove is built to stop you doing that.

These are made for the work in between. Leather across the knuckles for bag rounds and striking, with the fingers and palm left free so you can take a grip, clinch, or hold a bar. Mixed martial artists use them for grappling and pad work in the same session without changing hands twice. Lifters use them for the same reason a boxer does: leather across the palm takes a knurled bar better than skin. Black, in four sizes from small through extra large, in genuine leather, where most grappling gloves at this price are cut from synthetic.

Sizing

Measure across your palm at the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Grappling gloves should sit closer than a bag glove, since a loose glove rolls when you take a grip.

Grip, clinch and strike without changing gloves.

• Wipe the shell with a damp cloth after every session
• Air dry only. No heat, no direct sun
• Store out of the gym bag so the leather can breathe
• Deodorise weekly
• Condition the leather every few months
• Never submerge and never machine wash
