What goes into a complete speed bag setup?
A speed bag setup has three parts: the bag, the swivel it hangs from, and the platform it rebounds off. Buy them one at a time if you are replacing a worn piece, or take a platform that arrives with a pro swivel already fitted.
The swivel decides how the bag behaves. A standard swivel suits a boxer learning the rhythm. A pro swivel turns faster and holds the bag steadier at speed, which is what you want once you are running triples.
Single platforms suit a home garage or a spare wall in a club. Double platforms let two boxers work side by side, which is how most South African clubs run a bag round.
Heavy bag or speed bag?
They train different things. The heavy bag builds power and conditioning. The speed bag builds rhythm, timing and shoulder endurance, and it teaches your hands to stay up. A boxer wants both, and most gyms hang them on the same wall.
