Do I need the 600mm chain or the 300mm?

Choose 600mm if your ceiling or bracket sits high and the bag needs to drop further to reach proper punching height. Choose 300mm where the mounting point is already close to the right height.

Can I shorten the chain later?

You do not need to cut it. The D-shackles unscrew by hand, so you can reconfigure the setup or swap in the shorter 300mm chain instead.
