You have sixty seconds, one bucket of ice and a fighter whose eye is closing.

An endswell is a flat-faced steel tool with a handle, kept buried in the ice bucket through the fight so the metal sits cold when you need it. The cornerman lifts it out and presses the flat face against the area under firm, steady pressure through the interval. Steel holds cold far longer than a gloved hand or a wet towel, and the flat face lets you apply even pressure across a wider area than an ice cube allows. It is one of the few tools in the corner that does its work through simple thermal mass.
